Azazel

This is one of my encaustic pieces… again, I’ve got the yellow / orange / red thing going on. It’s approximately 5″ x 7″. Just matted and framed it yesterday, and will be submitting it (along with several other pieces) for the UAG (Upstate Artist Guild) April show, Angels and Demons.

I love encaustic! Playing with hot wax can be a little dangerous, yes. More than once I’ve burned my fingers. But, hey… a little suffering for one’s art is ok. (As long as it’s only a little suffering.)

So, why Azazel? First, there’s the whole fire look to the painting. Then there’s that wing-like streak along the right. So this made me think fallen angel. Despite many years of education with the nuns and priests, I couldn’t recall too many names of fallen angels. Azazel is the first name that popped into my mind first, and one of the few I could actually come up with. Being the geek that I am, I had to Google for a list of all the fallen angels. And after all that, I still liked “Azazel” the best. Go figure.
