Stalactites

In case you’re like me and have a hard time remembering the difference between stalactites and stalagmites… the stalactites are the ones that hang down from the ceilings of caves.

And in this cave (one more of my encaustic paintings), there several groupings of these lovely drippy things hanging from the ceiling.  Unless this cave is as big as the caverns at Carlsbad, I think I’d be a little reluctant to go hiking through there.  No, really… I don’t think I’d make a very good spelunker.

    Lovely!
When I was a kid, a tour guide gave me a tip to remember the difference. Stalactites “hang tight” to the ceiling, and stalagmites need a lot of “might” to grow from the floor. Kind of goofy, but I never confuse the two.

@LuckyGirl… I’m pretty sure I’ve heard that before. My problem is I can’t remember it from year to year. LOL

I’m seeing something much different. I see a huge tongue laid out with some strange teeth above it.

@Redbeard… My brain can remember an incredible number of things, but if things are related to computers I stand less of a chance of remembering them. LOL

@Beamer… Way to go! You’re really getting into this abstract art thing now! And a huge tongue with strange teeth is definitely less ordinary than mere stalactites.
